Tanahun, January 3
A recent study conducted by the CHREPA revealed that unwanted pregnancies account for 37 per cent of total births in the country.
It was reported that one out of every five woman in the rural areas had undergone unwanted pregnancy and that the men were to be blamed for imposing their unilateral decision for such.
The report, made public yesterday at a programme organised jointly by the CHREPA and the Nepal United Rural Development Center (NURDC) of Tanahun, showed that a woman bears three children on an average. Similarly , one in every five women in rural areas and one in every seven women in urban areas bear unwanted pregnancy twice or more.
Women speakers during the interaction programme were of the view that legalising of abortion would increase cases of abortion but at the same time help avoid unwanted pregnancies.
