4 died after monsoon rain triggers flood in Jhapa
JHAPA: As many as four persons died after they were swept away in flood triggered by torrential rainfall in different parts of Jhapa district on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Dhanmaya Garsane of Jhapa Rural Municipality-2, Bijay Pandey of Shivasatakshi Municipality-1, Ram Rajbanshi of Kachanakawal Rural Municipality-3 and Kamala Darlami of Jhapa Rural Municipality-3 in the district.
Various parts of Jhapa district was inundated by floods due to the incessant rainfall especially the southern part of the district.
More than 1,249 houses were inundated after theĀ swollen Kankai River, Biring River, Ninda River, Mechi River and Kamal River entered the settlements in the district.
The local administration has warned the residents to stay alert as the continued rainfall is likely to increase the flood levels.
Meanwhile, police are attempting to relocate the villages near the rivers to the safe locations. However, the bad weather is making it impossible at the moment, informed police.
