4 kids drown in ditch in Rautahat, unfortunate: Home Minister

KATHMANDU: The Minister for Home Affairs Janardan Sharma has termed the 4 kids drown in roadside ditch in Garuda Municipality in Rautahat district as unfortunate while addressing the Legislature-Parliament on Wednesday.

Minister Sharma also said that the 3-member probe team had been formed which is headed by Deepak Kafle joint secretary at the Peace and Security Department under the Home Ministry, Eastern Regional Road Directorate Chief Mukti Ram Gautam and DIG Puspa Chandra Ranjit as its member.

The team had already reached the site yesterday and would submit its report within 15 days, Minister Sharma shared.

Earlier, the four kids were drown in a roadside puddle dug by the local contractor for the construction of the road in the area. Unfortunately, four kids lost their lives after falling into the ditch on Saturday.

Minister Sharma addressing the house said, police had reached the incident site promptly, only to find one corpse floating in the ditch, however, other three were recovered in drowning state, Sharma added.

Police had arrested the proprietor of Durga Construction but was later released on bail as per the request of the Contractors Association Forum.

Meanwhile, the country has been ravaged by floods and landslides, and the government has declared relief package to the victims,

Minister Sharma informed that the government has decided to provide Rs 10,000 for the construction of temporary shelters whose houses have been completely destroyed in the disaster and Rs 15,000 for the purchase of corrugated zinc sheets.

He also said that Rs 2,00,000 would be granted to purchase land for those victims whose house has been completed destroyed and land swept away by flood or landslide though Land Survey Office in concerned areas.

He also added that the Central Natural Disaster Relief Committee has also decided to provide Rs 3,00,000 per family for the construction of house.
