46 quake-stricken families relocated to safer settlement
The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) purchased housing at Ramati area of Shikarbensi in ward no 7 of the rural municipality and relocated 46 families among the total number of families displaced during the Gorkha earthquake, which struck on April 25, 2015.
NRA also handed over land ownership documents to each of the families. NRA District Coordination Committee Secretariat Nuwakot's Acting Chief, Ved Prasad Gaudel, said 19 ropani of land belonging to Aitman Tamang, Damai Singh Tamang and Yadu Kumar Adhikari were purchased at a cost of Rs 9.2 million to rehabilitate the quake survivors.
The Authority is set to construct houses as part of an integrated settlement after acquiring land in a safer location. It is searching for another safe location to settle 28 other families from Dhyangphedi.
The villages in Dhyangphedi were swept away in a dry landslide following the massive earthquake. The villagers have been living in temporary tents ever since.
The government data shows that 324 families in the district had been living in risky settlements following the earthquake. Of the total number of families, 52 from Urleni and 14 from Lachyang were provided with land and resettled earlier while the rest are waiting to be relocated.
