4th Lumbini Peace Marathon on March 1

LUMBINI: The fourth Lumbini peace marathon would be organised on March 1 on the occasion of Phagu Purnima with an objective of preserving and promoting Lumbini, the birth place of Gautam Buddha, and heritages.

Lumbini Peace Marathon Adventure Sports Nepal is organising the marathon.

The organiser said that the marathon would play significant role in developing and promoting Lumbini area as the main religious site of Buddhists of the world.

Developing and promoting sports activities in the country is also the objective of the marathon.

The marathon would be held in three categories — 42-kilometre full marathon, 21-km half marathon and five-km race.

Race Director of the marathon, marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar claimed that the peace marathon would help attract more tourists in Lumbini area.

The organiser expects participation of some 250 runners from different countries including Nepal, India, Australia and China in the peace marathon.
