5 'disabled' of single family deprived of government aid
BAJURA: All five members of a family in the remote Bichhayan VDC of Bajura district, though being differently able, have been deprived of the government facilities they should have got.
Out of five family members, Simal Thapa and his wife Machha Thapa have hearing and speaking disabilities.
Thapa has two sons and a daughter, who have visual disabilities.
The government has not yet provided them the disability identity cards.
According to Simal, his elder son Bir Bahadur (16), daughter Anjana (12) and youngest son Bimal (3) cannot see by birth.
"We cannot afford to go to Martadi, the district headquarters, to make the identity cards as our financial condition is weak," said Simal using the sign language, adding, "We have not got any government facility due to the lack of identity cards."
The financial condition of the family is seems so weak that they are living in the house which can collapse anytime soon.
Simal wants to consult some specialist doctor for his children's condition, but has no money for it.
"Their elder son Bir Bahadur roams around nearby places and brings water from the nearby tap. That is the only work he can do," said Akabir Thapa, a local.
The family lives in a small shanty and has a small land where he cultivates some crops. Farming only helps him for a month in a year. He does have any other work to earn his living for the rest 11 months.
