52 Kapilvastu schools remain shut
Kapilvastu, September 27:
Classes in 52 schools all over Kapilvastu district are still disrupted in the wake of the rioting and violence that occurred after the murder of Democratic Madhesi Mukti Morcha president Moin Khan 12 days ago.
Most of the students are living displaced lives in camps for riot-hit refugees, said the district education office. Students from over half a dozen VDCs of the northern part of the district are living in refugee camps. Some 15,000 students in these 52 schools are deprived of the opportunity to attend school. In the madrasa also, the 48 students there are unable to attend classes. The Chandrauta Rastriya secondary school and the Sundaridanda Prakash secondary school are serving as camps for the displaced.
Principal of Prakash secondary school Megh Nath Adhikari said, “Displaced people
are staying in the school.
We cannot tell them to leave. The government should provide them shelter.”
Anti-social elements burnt down Durga primary school in Devipur of Bishanpur VDC 3, said school headmaster Tameshwar Gupta. He said the village was also torched, adding it was unclear when the villagers will return or when the school can be reopened. DEO Rakesh Shrivastav said educational institutions in other areas reopened on Tuesday. He added efforts were on to reopen other schools.
