KATHMANDU, JANUARY 23
Nepal recorded 5,966 disaster-related incidents nationwide over the past nine months since April 14, 2025, resulting in 424 deaths and 1,643 injuries, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
The Authority said 38 people remain missing, while 11,535 families have been affected. Fire incidents topped the list with 2,692 cases, claiming 75 lives, injuring 442 people and affecting 2,996 families.
Landslides accounted for 577 incidents, killing 71 people, injuring 80 and leaving five missing. Other recorded incidents include 316 floods, 427 heavy rainfall events, 352 lightning strikes, 580 snakebite cases, 186 forest fires, 290 windstorms and 422 animal attacks.
The Authority also recorded 105 high-altitude incidents, five avalanches, seven earthquakes and two boat capsizings, noting that fire incidents have been rising in recent weeks.
