6 killed, 3 injured in Okhaldhunga jeep accident

KATHMANDU: At least six persons died on the spot and three sustained injuries in a Scorpio jeep accident in Manebhanjyang Rural Municipality-6 of Okhaldhunga district on Sunday.

Those killed in the accident have been identified as Mingma Sherpa, 55, from Olajung, and Shamgel Sherpa from Phattalung of Taplejung district; Ngawan Seturng Sherpa, 40, Norbu Sherpa, 35, Wangda Sherpa and Doma Sherpa from Bouddha, Kathmandu, said Police Inspector at District Police Office, Rajeev Shrestha.

The accident took place when the jeep (Ba 16 Cha 2207) heading to Kathmandu from Solukhumbu district fell some 200 metres down the roadway at Hilepani, killing six passengers on the spot.

Three others including a child and driver Krishna Shrestha were seriously injured in the incident. All the injured have been sent to Kathmandu for further treatment.
