60 families displaced by Bajura landslide

BAJURA: Around 60 households were displaced after a landslide in Badimalika Municipality of Bajura district hit their village on Saturday night.

Chief of the District Police Office, DSP Dal Bahadur Bogati, said the families from Rajali, Badimalika Municipality-4 of the district were forced to leave the village as the landslide slipped into the centre of their settlement.

While some of the victims are living with their relatives, some have installed tents in nearby safer locations, according to local Dev Raj Padhya.

Meanwhile, as many as 42 household in Jilli, Badimalika-9 are at a high risk of being buried under a landslide, according to Laxmi Raj Padhya.

DSP Bogati said normal life in the district has been thrown out of gear as heavy rainfall continued unabated since Saturday evening.

The Betalmandau-Martadi road has been obstructed at multiple points due to the landslides.

A micro hydropower project has been shut down as a flood swept away its canal in the district headquarters Martadi.

Last week, around 100 families of Kawadi in Rugin VDC had been displaced by a landslide.

According to the District Administration Office, 20 VDCs including Barhabis, Badhu, Kolti, Jagannath, Gudukharti, Kuldevmandau and Sappata are at a high risk of landslides.

Meanwhile, losses have been reported from neighbouring Bajhang district as well due to floods and landslides.

A flood in Bauligad River has swept away water pipes supplying water to the district headquarters Chairpur, leaving the headquarters denizens high and dry.
