70 pc Nepali mothers are anemic
KATHMANDU: According to a research carried out by Women Rehabilitation Center (WOREC), about 70 percent mothers in Nepal are suffering from anemia.
The report depicts poor condition of maternal health in Nepal. As only 53.4 percent women get proper care during their pregnancy and 27 percent are living with uterine-prolapsed. Similarly one pregnant woman dies every four hours in Nepal. Only 19 percent women have the access to health service and 44.2 percent use means of family planning. The problem is more severe in rural parts of the country where they do not have access to basic services also.
The chairperson of WOREC stressed, that the new health policies should take into account these realities and guarantee women’s access to health.
