70 seismometres installed in various places of Gorkha

GORKHA: As many as 70 seismometres have been installed in various places of Gorkha district recently.

The equipment to measure the earthquake were installed in the places including Aarughat, Aarkhet, Lapubesi, Ghaympesal, Chanaute, Baluwa, Barpak and Laprak.

As there was a higher risk of earthquake in Gorkha, which was also the epicentre of the 2015 earthquake, the devices were installed there, said geologist Dr Dandapani Adhikari.

Earlier last year, a total of 35 seismometres were set up in the area from Rasuwa to Hetaunda of Makawanpur district.

The devices which locate and measure the ground movement would also be installed in other districts affected by the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake incluidng Dhading, Sindhupalchok and Kavre, added Adhikari.

According to him, the results from the reading by the seismometres would be collected in four months and a further study would be carried out based on it.

The project was financially supported by Tokyo University of Japan.
