Over 750 licensed arms not submitted in Lamjung

Very few locals have submitted their arms in Lamjung, although the government had notified the general public to submit all weapons for safekeeping till the local level elections by April 28.

Lamjung police chief Deputy Superintendent of Police Samirchandra Kharel said that only 63 licensed weapons were submitted to the police. “As many as 765 licensed weapons have not been submitted,” DSP Kharel said. Data at the District Administrative Office, Lamjung shows that 828 weapons have been registered with the office.

According to Dillliram Sharma, first class non-gazetted officer at the District Administration Office, the registered weapons comprise loaded rifles and shot guns, among others.

The District Security Committee had urged all to submit their weapons to the police for security purposed during the upcoming May 14 elections. Police have warned of action if the weapons are not submitted.

The law allows individuals to own licensed arms, but it also decrees civilians are not allowed to possess weapons during election period even with a license.
