KATHMANDU, MAY 18

A team from Nepal Police seized 7.65 kilograms of gold smuggled into Nepal from China through the Rasuwagadhi Checkpoint on Sunday.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Hem Bahadur Shahi of the District Police Office (DPO), Rasuwa, the contraband was recovered from a truck (registration number: Ba 4 Kha 6201) that was reportedly transporting apples.

The current market value of the seized gold is estimated at over Rs 111 million.

Police have detained the truck driver, Kishore Bhujel, 24, a resident of Syafrubesi in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa district, for further investigation. It was shared that Bhujel had migrated to Rasuwa from another location.

According to DSP Shahi, the police are proceeding with the process to hand over Bhujel to the Rasuwa Customs Office in Timure for further legal action.

Since December 2015, security agencies in the district have seized a total of 65.69 kilograms of gold from this checkpoint and handed it over to the concerned authorities for further proceedings, the DPO, Rasuwa, informed.
