8 injured in Siraha jewellery shop IED blast

KATHMANDU: Eight persons have been injured when a pressure cooker bomb exploded at a jewellery shop in Lahan Municipality-6 of Siraha district at 1:00 pm today.

The injured have been identified as shop-owner Bikash Sharada, his brother Rahul Sharada, employee Asmita Kumari Chaudhary (21), customer Dev Kumari Yadav (22) of Nawarajpur Rural Municipality-3 of Siraha, her 7-year-old son Satish Yadav, Manika Devi Ram of Surunga Municipality-6 of Saptari, Babita Yadav of Lahan Municipality-21, and her sister Binita Yadav.

The injured are undergoing treatment and everyone is out of danger, said Shree Krishna Shrestha, Chief District Officer of Siraha.

Of the injured, five are undergoing treatment at Lahan-based Saptarishi Nursing Home, while three others at Ram Prasad Umasmarak Hospital, also located in Lahan.

Motive and persons behind the blast using the improvised explosive device is yet to be ascertained, and further investigations into the case are underway, police said.
