85 forfeit poll security deposit

Eighty-five contestants of the second phase local level elections in Dhankuta Municipality have forfeited their security deposit as per the rule after they failed to secure minimum 10 per cent votes.

More than 200 candidates from 17 political parties had registered to contest different posts in the municipality comprising 10 wards according to District Election Office, Dhankuta.

A candidate has to garner at least 10 per cent of the total votes in the election to claim their security deposits back.

Five mayoral and five deputy mayoral candidates, along with fifteen ward chair candidates, among others, forfeited their deposits.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s mayoral candidate Balananda Bhurtel, Naya Shakti Nepal’s Ganesh Pokhrel, Federal Democratic National Forum’s Indra Rasaili, Janamorcha’s Kailash Poudel and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum Democratic’s Amrit Kumari Rai lost their security deposit.

Likewise, deputy mayoral candidates of Madheshi Janaadhikar Forum Ambar Malla Thakuri, Rastriya Prajatantra Party’s Tara Kumari Tamang, Federal Democratic National Forum’s Sar Maya Rai, Rastriya Janamukti’s Shanta Rai and independent candidate Sabitra Bishwokarma lost their security deposit, as per the District Election Office, Dhankuta.
