9 arrested for swindling millions in the name of lottery through social networking sites
POKHARA: The Kaski District Police Office has arrested and made public nine persons on charge of swindling various people out of millions of rupees through social networking sites in the name of lottery.
The arrestees have been identified as Thakur Gurung (28), Ganesh Gurung (28) and Manoj Tamang (19) of Netravati Rural Municipality-1; Tek Bahadur Tamang (26) and Jenish Tamang (24) of Khaniyabas Rural Municipality-5 in Dhading district; Yam Bahadur Magar (26) of Palpa; Sangita Mishra (24), Kamana Tiwari (35) and Yogendra Tiwari (45) of Mahottari in Dhanusha.
The group cheated as many as 88 people of more than Rs 10.3 million through social media apps including facebook, viber, and imo.
A joint team from Kaski District Plice Office, Palpa District Polcie Office and Dhanusha District Police Office also confiscated Rs 201,000 from their possession.
The arrestees defrauded the individuals saying that they have won Rs 2.5 million and have sent the gold and money to the winners as lottery winning prize.
The swindlers in the name of tax clearance, customs duties, among others defrauded various individuals of Kaski and nearby districts and extorted money.
