9 killed, 31 injured in Makawanpur bus collision

HETAUNDA: At least nine persons died and 31 others were injured when two commuter buses collided with each other at Ramantar in Manahari-3 of Makawanpur district after Saturday midnight.

According to the District Police Office, Makawanpur, six persons died on the spot and three breathed their last during the course of treatment at the Chure Hill Hospital.

Among the deceased, six persons have been identified as Laxmi Prasad Adhikari (39) of Topgachhi, Jhapa; Mani Ratna Chaudhary (10); Binod Chaudhary (20), Santosh Chaudhary (27) and Muskan Chaudhary  (3) of Triyuga Municiplaity, Udayapur and Bishal Chaudhary (27) of Simraungadh, Bara.

The identities of others are yet to be established.

Police said that the incident occurred when one of the buses, (Na 5 Kha 5055) driven by Badri Khadka, tried to overtake a truck on the highway.

Among the injured, four persons are said to be in critical condition.

The injured are receiving treatment at the Chure Hill Hospital.
