99 bandh enforcers nabbed from across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Police arrested 99 bandh enforcers from different parts of the country during a nationwide bandh imposed by the Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist on Thursday.

Among them, 34 people were arrested from Kathmandu, 20 from Sarlahi, 12 from Kalikot, eight from Kaski, six from Lalitpur, five from Siraha, four from Darchula, three from Bhaktapur and Sunsari each, two from Chitwan and one from Lamjung.

The bandh enforces had vandalised various vehicles in different districts including Sunsari, Chitwan, Jhapa, Bardiya, Banke and Nuwakot, according to police.

The party had called the nationwide bandh today demanding release of its arrested cadres.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) expressed its serious concerns over the violations of rights of common people due to the bandh.

Issuing a statement, the human rights watchdog has urged the parties to be responsible and to solve their differences through dialogues among themselves rather than taking them out on the streets.
