A legislator in Bihar is a Nepali national!
Patna, May 18:
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) legislator Nagina Devi, who represents the Bathnaha constituency in Bihar assembly, is not a citizen of India but of Nepal, according to a recent report of the union home ministry. The startling home ministry report was in response to a letter of the Sitamarhi district magistrate. The home ministry has confirmed in its report that Nagina Devi, in her 30s, is not an Indian citizen. Only an Indian citizen can contest an election in the country.
“The home ministry report was based on the facts provided by Sitamarhi district magistrate Suman Kumar’s inquiry into the case following a complaint by a political activist,” official sources in Sitamarhi said Friday. According to the report, Nagina Devi had married an Indian but she cannot be treated as an Indian citizen on the basis of marriage. The report asked the state home department to take up the issue.
The district magistrate said that there was no proof of Nagina Devi’s Indian citizenship and she has failed to provide any proof in support too. It was also reported she had changed her name in the voters’ list.
