KATHMANDU, JUNE 07
An announcement was put forth on all social media platforms and college notice boards declaring the beginning of an entirely new competition event for the first-year students-The Winnerverse.
This Marvel Cinematic Universe inspired six-week event boasted a series of team-based competitions for participants that allowed them to apply their creativity, academic and leadership skills to secure the title of The Winnerverse.
Once the teams were formed, the first competition was shortly revealed to the audienceLove and Thunder. Its primary purpose was to spark the flame of competition among the participants while also breaking the ice amongst participants. It included fun games and competitions that helped the students from different faculties crossing paths for the first time to interact and build a foundation for the upcoming competitions.
The second event of the Winner-verse was scheduled for next week. They announced thenext event of the Winnerverse- The Ad-vengers, an event with the main goal of creating a video advertisement for our college with the theme being, 'Islington Forever Ours'.
The competition was on, as teams soon scurried away to different corners of our campus to film their interpretation of the perfect advertisement. The next day all teams gathered to present their ads. The students were able to come up with some of the most visionary and memorable advertisement pitches for this challenge of the Winnerverse.
It would be accurate to say that the ideas portrayed in the presentations and the videos that day perfectly aligned with the theme of the event, 'Islington Forever Ours'. With the Top 5 of this event announced, students were now looking forward to the next event of the Winnerverse.
I Am Islington- the next event, was an event to design our college's very own mascot and the teams were thrilled about it. Brainstorming what each team wants their character to be out of an endless amount of possible inspirations and finally deciding on one idea that could conceivably help them win was the biggest challenge of them all. The next day after the teams submitted their mascot for Islington College, everyone was seated for the presentation.
There was a serious atmosphere as teams became filled with apprehension sprinkled with comical moments as teams hesitated and fumbled to our judge's comprehensive interrogation. Even with some shortcomings, the participants managed to impress everybody at the end given the limitations they had. A team went so far as to create a 3D render along with a 3D-printed replica of their rhinoceros mascot.
Everyone was now halfway through the Winnerverse but the enthusiasm remained constant with the next event being The Guardians of the CyberSpace. This challenge was unique from the rest. There wasn't a presentation or a development of an idea. Their intelligence and skills were to be tested. With three tasks awaiting the students from steganography to quizzes, these tests involved different aspects of cybersecurity like hacking, password cracking and more.
The winners of the quiz were announced to also receive a surprise and it was Team J who took the top position on the leaderboard. They had won themselves tickets to the latest Marvel movie- Multiverse of Madness.
Nearing the end of the Winnerverse Who's Got The Stark? was announced. Teams had to formulate a business plan by choosing two or more brands fusing them to achieve one or more of the global Sustainable Development Goals.
Everyone got to work doing heaps of research searching for that one idea that could win them this competition. Teams who had entered the Top 5 of all competitions had high stakes as they could further their chance of winning the overall competition. The combinations of brands they chose were ingenious and suitable and their reasoning fascinated the judges. The ideas were sound and they seemed practical enough to work while also being meticulous in their presentation.
After a six-week journey of specially tailored challenges which each team faced head-on splendidly, they were now entering the endgame. With the final competition- App Reactor announced, teams rushed to complete it. It was a
competition where teams had to make a platform-based mobile game. The time allocated to them was only two days from the announcement day and everything had to be completed by the deadline along with the presentation. Two days passed and the day of the presentation came forth.
Each team had done everything they could within the limited amount of time and it was a great feat they had accomplished. Students had managed to create wonderful things from 2D platformers and 3D racing games to visual novels with no prior experience in game development and it impressed the judges greatly.
And so came the day everyone was desperately waiting for. Each deserving team was to receive the fruits of their labour but before that, the final day of the Winnerverse- Into the Winnerverse consisted of a Project Showcase. With the main purpose to highlight the journey that each team went through in the Winnerverse, this event had every team showcase their ideas and prototypes to the curious onlookers.
Then came the closing ceremony which opened with dazzling musical performances. The
crowd thoroughly enjoyed the tunes played to them and could be seen singing along with the
performers. Finally, the moment everyone was holding back for, the awards ceremony. The
atmosphere was filled with suspense and waves of emotions overcame the victors as they
were announced and called forth on the stage to receive their fabulous prizes. Summarizing
this pivotal event, the winners were as follows:
Ad-vengers- Team F
I Am Islington- Team B
Guardians of Cyberspace- Team J
Go Web!- Team P
Who's got the Stark?- Team E
App Reactor- Team A
Finally, the grand winner of this grand contest was to be echoed in front of the eagerly
expecting audience. Teams could see the magnificent golden trophy sitting in front calling
out to them.
Among them, one team was confident in securing the title of being the 'Conquerors of the Winnerverse'. Team B proudly marched toward the stage to claim their prize as their name was proclaimed; a moment to be remembered by all who were present.
And with that, the first-ever Winnerverse of Islington College came to an end. A journey spanning six weeks where friendships were forged, challenges were overcome and
memories were made, this event was one of a kind.
The organisation was flawless and so were all the branding elements that added to the pzazz of this Marvel-themed academic competition.
