Abduction of scribes condemned

Nepalgunj, October 7:

Nepalgunj-based journalists today protested the issuance of threats against the journalists and cases of abduction of scribes. The protest programme was held during the third anniversary of Radio Bageshwori FM demanding immediate release of Bara-based journalist Birendra Shah. Maoists had kidnapped Shah on Friday and his whereabouts were not known.

Recent attacks on media houses were also condemned.

Central member of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Mohamad Haroon, said the acts of attack on media houses and journalists affected the press freedom.

Vice-president of the Banke chapter of FNJ, Jhalak Gaire, stressed the need of ending transitional phase in the country at the earliest.

Chairperson Raj Bikram Shah and station manager Tula Adhikari of the Bageshwori FM also expressed their views at the function.
