JHAPA: An absconding fraud convict was arrested by police and sent to jail by the Jhapa District Court on Tuesday.

Mohan Uprety alias Manoj, a local of Barhadashi Rural Municipality, was sentenced to jail for swindling innocent women with fake gold jewellery, said police.

Uprety was absconding since May 4, 2015.

The Court had on July 12, 2015 had ordered that he be sent to jail for a year and fined Rs 800,000.

Acting on a tip-off, a special team deployed from the Damak Area Police Office (APO) arrested him from Bhaktapur on March 31 in coordination with the Thimi-based Metropolitan Police Circle, Bhaktapur, said DSP Rajan Limbu of the APO.
