Absence of accountant hits Besisahar Municipality hard

Lamjung, April 17

Official work at Besisahar Municipality has been affected badly due to lack of accountant for the past four months.

Accountant Ramesh Basnet was transferred to District Drinking Water Office four months ago, but his post is yet to be filled.

Mayor Gumansingh Aryal said lack of accountant had hit all works related to account and finance in the municipality.

According to Aryal, the municipality has not been able to release government employees’ salary and social security allowance. Besides agreement on physical infrastructure, education and health have also been hit hard.

Basnet was deployed to the municipality for periodic service. Though Basnet has been deployed to the municipality to look into accounts for three days a week, regular work has been adversely affected. Aryal admitted that absence of full time accountant had affected all and sundry.

According to chief administrative officer at the municipality Bhim Prasad Tiwari, all work was halted as Basnet had stopped attending office after he fell ill.

Tiwari said employees’ salary had been blocked due to lack of accountant.

Education Section Chief at the municipality Ram Krishna Tripathi said they did not even have money to run grade VII exam. Many service seekers are forced to return empty-handed, while many are waiting for Basnet to join work.

Mayor Aryal said his office had talked to Kosh Tatha Lekha-Niyantran Office repeatedly to manage an accountant at the municipality, but to no avail.
