Accused flees from Morang district court

Biratnagar, February 8:

An accused fled from Morang district court while he was giving a statement on Sunday.

Najam Ansari, 25, of Ghuski VDC-1 of Sunsari fled from the court as the judge was taking his statement on Sunday. Police had arrested him a month ago on three separate charges of robbery, burglary and theft.

Ansari was presented at the court on Sunday at 11:00 am for a hearing in a robbery case. He was in the court for an hour and after giving a statement, he suddenly disappeared mysteriously leaving the judge, the security personnel and the martial present in the court stunned, said a district police office source yesterday.

There was a hue and cry in the court as Ansari disappeared after the 16th question was put up by the district judge. He was brought to the court by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Ram Bahadur Adhikari. According to district police office Morang, Ansari is the main accomplice in a motorcycle theft case as he has already stolen 51 motorcycles uptill now.

Bishal Kedia of Biratnagar had registered a case against him. On the basis of this complaint, police had initiated action through the government attorney.

Advocate Chuda Mani Acharya, who pleaded in favour of Ansari, expressed surprise over the disappearance. Prakash Nath Uprety, Chuda Mani Pokharel and Binod Sharma also pleaded on his behalf. They all said they were astonished at the disappearance.

A district police office source informed that Ansari had fled from custody in the past as well. The court source said that Ansari was successful in escaping as the security personnel were standing outside the court premises. The district police office Morang stated that the police team, including ASI Adhikari, have been detained and investigations are going on.
