Achham polygamists sent to jail

DHANGADI: Achham District Court slapped 30 months in jail to a couple for practicing polygamy in the district.

The convicts have been identified as Dabal Bahadur Shahi and his second wife Yasoda of Kalikaisthan-8 in the district.

A single bench of District Judge Hari Prasad Sharma Upadhaya Pangeni issued the verdict to send the duo to jail for two and half years, after the man's first wife had filed a case against them at the Court in July this year for practicing polygamy.

The Judge pronounced the decision as per Marriage Column of the Muliki Ain, the national civil code.

A court official Netra Bahadur Majhi said the couple have also been slapped with fine of Rs 25,000 each in the verdict.

Since the case was filed, Dabal and Yasoda are at large.
