Acting CDO’s body brought to Nepalgunj for last rites

Hundreds of locals gathered when the body of assassinated acting CDO Balanand Kafle, 34, was airlifted from Bardiya to Nepalgunj this morning. The body was taken to Ayodhya for cremation. The relatives and well-wishers paid homage to the body which was kept on the premises of Bheri Zonal Hospital. Kamala, 31, the wife of late CDO wailed and asked the purpose of the murder. She lamented her husband’s refusal to take a bodyguard when offered.” The horrific incident could have been averted had he taken precautions.” Complaining that there was no prior warning, she said: “Had they asked him to quit the job, we would have made him do so.” Kafle is survived by his wife and three children. Kafle’s wife is a non-gadezetted officer at the Appellate Court in Nepalgunj. Meanwhile, a report from Charikot said that life in Charikot is slowing getting back to normal after the Maoists struck the area on Saturday night.

The offices which were targeted by the Maoists resumed services from today. The District Survey Office, Land Revenue Office, Post Office and Division Cooperatives Office were totally destroyed. The services have resumed after the offices were shifted to other places, said Chandeshwor Acharya, the CDO of Dolakha district. The Land Revenue Office has been shifted to the Agricultural Tools Building and all the essential documents are safe, he said. All the documents and stamps worth Rs 184, 000 of the post office are safe and have been shifted to the office of Ward No 1 of Bhimeshwor municipality. After the Division Cooperatives Office was gutted, the services have been shifted to the District Agricultural Development Office. The District Education Office, Division Road Office, District Technical Office, NTC and District Forest Office remain at the same place and are operational.
