‘Maoists’ stir to surpass April Uprising’

KATHMANDU: Vice chairman of Unified CPN-Maoist Dr Baburam Bhattarai today claimed that the slated agitation would be more intense than the decade-long “people’s war” and the 19-day long people’s movement.

While addressing a function organised by Nepal National Industry and Business Federation here today, Dr Bhattarai also urged everyone to be ready for such movement.

“The movement will sweep away all the regressive forces if they try to disturb the peace process and constitution drafting process,” he warned.

He claimed that other parties were trying to impose “kingless monarchy” with the army support. “Such parties will have the fate like that of the monarchy if they fail to abide by the people’s verdict,” he added.

While addressing the same function UCPN-M general secretary, Ram Bahadur Thapa said the nation was in a serious crisis. Other parties were conspiring to derail the peace process and the constitution making process, he claimed.

Thapa, however, claimed that all the problems would be resolved through the wave of people’s movement. In another function the same day, the another vice chairman of the Maoists, Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’, claimed that the parties were trying to force the Maoist to surrender on the issue of national independence.

“The parties are scared thinking the Maoists would bring drastic changes in the country as per the wish of the people. This is why they are trying to foil our plans,” he claimed. He added the parties didn’t want the Maoist to be in the power. He was addressing a greetings exchange programme on the occasion of Dashain organised by Campaign for Human Rights and Social Transformation Nepal.

“The scheduled revolt is against the traditional parliamentary system and also a kind of class struggle,” he commented. Prakash claimed that the parties had been

sticking to the Westminster model. Referring to various meetings among the

parties, he said, “They agreed for common proposal but they don’t want to utter a single word on President - against whom our movement is targeted,” he said.
