‘Measures on climate change after research’
KAVRE: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal today said that study of the impact of climate change in Nepal was necessary. He opined that measures could only be taken with a proper research on impact of climate change in the country.
Speaking at a programme organised by Central Resource Management Department of CPN-UML in Dhulikhel, Nepal said, “The countries who are the largest polluters should pay for the damages caused to the environment. While the countries, like Nepal should be getting compensation so as to adapt to the impacts of climate change caused due to pollution. Claiming that Nepal was presented in an impressive way in the UN forum deliberating on climate change PM added,” all countries should help us to keep safe the Himalayan Range of our country.'
The PM also expressed concerns over the rapid melting of mountains since 1970. He also urged the authorities to discuss the issues that are set for Copenhagen Climate Conference. Likewise, members of National Planning Commission Dr Dinesh Chandra Devkota and Gehendra Gurung presented working papers on impacts of climate change.
Referring to the protests announced by the UCPN-Maoist, the PM said,'One cannot get the power by sobbing in the streets,” adding,'There should be majority in the House to run the government.' He also challenged the Maoists to prove their majority and form government under their leadership.
