‘YCL threat’ forces UML cadre to flee village

Sankhuwasabha, May 29:

A CPN-UML cadre of Madimulkharka-9 fled to the district hearquarters, Khandbari, yesterday following the alleged threat of YCL cadres.

According to district UML source, YCL cadres thrashed Suman Karki, 36, and warned to kill him.

A group of nine pro-Maoist Young Communist League cadres kidnapped Karki on May 22, beat him up mercilessly and released him after extorting Rs 6,000, CPN-UML district unit said.

“Initially, some YCL cadres wanted me to pay Rs 50,000. However, I just paid them Rs 6,000 and fled to Khandbari,” said Karki, who is now taking refuge at Khandbari-based CPN-UML district committee.

Karki said Maoists kidnapped him for helping the CPN-UML during the Constituent Assembly election after they suffered defeat in the election.

However, Maoists’ district member Dibya Baral ruled out his party hand in the incident and said they were ready to punish anyone if found guilty.

CPN-UML Sankh-uwasabha flayed the incident and demanded action against the culprits.

Acting police chief Buddha Kumar Rai said an investigation was underway.
