‘Extortionists’ held

Biratnagar, July 7:

The police today arrested Rohit Yadav, Dipendra Mehata and Amrit Gupta, students of Mahendra Morang Campus, on the charge of extortion.

Identifying themselves as cadres of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Goit), the three had been threatening teachers, campus chief and officials of other educational institutions over phone and extorting from them.

They were arrested while they were seeking Rs 51,000 in donation from the owner of Biratnagar-based Maske Book Shop.

The three confessed to threatening chief of the Mahendra Morang Campus Pawan Karna and one Dipak Pokharel. Earlier, Dipendra and Amit were arrested on the charge of robbery, but were released on bail.
