‘Maoists’ supremacy rhetoric for dictatorship’

DHULIKHEL: Minister for Energy Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat today said the tendency of unleashing terror and violence would never ensure “civilian supremacy”, as harped on by the Maoists, in the country.

Speaking at a tea reception organised by the Kavre chapter of Nepal Students’ Union in Banepa, Mahat charged that the Maoists were raising the issue of civilian supremacy to impose dictatorship. “The threats of violence and anarchy such as pelting stones to ministers do not establish civilian’s supremacy whatsoever,” Minister Mahat said. “Other political parties had hoped that the Maoists would move ahead accepting rule of the game after they joined the peace process. But, they’re trying to impose dictatorship in the name of civilian supremacy,” he charged. Claiming that days were over for dictatorship, he said, “The ideology of democracy and individual freedom will flourish in Nepal.”

Stating that anarchic activities were yet to end in the country even after the uprooting of monarchy, the minister said, “There will be risk of emergence of dictatorship until the society becomes democratic.” He said only democratic norms and values so as to prevent the rise of any form of dictatorship in the country.
