‘Ratify treaty on migrants’

Dhangadhi, August 9:

Participants at a workshop held today urged the government to ratify the UN treaty for Immigrant Workers’ Protection so that Nepalis living abroad can enjoy social security on a par with the natives. Forty-four countries have ratified the treaty so far. According to a report, most of the outbound Nepalis go to the Gulf countries to seek employment opportunities. About 2 lakh Nepalis have been working in Malaysia, 1.28 lakh in Saudi Arabia, and 1.4 lakh in Qatar.
