Aggrieved mill employees halt work at border

Biratnagar, December 9:

Workers of Biratnagar Jute Mill, who were on a two-day agitation with their four-point charter of demands, halted Biratnagar border point today as well.

The employees launched their agitation on November 28 and halted the main entry point to Biratnagar starting December 8. Today, the jute mill staffers organised a sit-in from 10 am to 12 noon, stopping all revenue collection for import.

Customs office chief Mitralal Regmi said today’s strike disrupted the daily revenue collection in Biratnagar. He added that truckloads from India had not entered since the Indian offices were closed for the Muslim festival of Bakar-Eid.

According to joint struggle committee president Nanikaji Shrestha, the employees would organise a sit-in for four hours in front of the Biratnagar customs office gate beginning tomorrow.
