Agitating entrepreneurs’ health deteriorates

JANAKPURDHAM: Health condition of entrepreneurs, who have been staging a fast-unto-death at Janakchowk in Janakpur, demanding an end to the irregular supply of electricity with low voltage, has worsened.

Three members from Janakpur chapter of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry have been staging a hunger strike since last Wednesday.

Health condition of FNCCI senior vice-chairman Bijay Kumar Sah, Secretary Surendra Bhandari and member Fulendra Pandit has worsened, said Dr Gaurang Mishra of Janakpur Zonal Hospital. “The rising temperature has complicated the heath of the agitators,” he said.

The agitating members were administered saline water today after their condition worsened.

“We are regularly carrying out agitating membrs’ health check-up,” said Dr Nagendra Parasad Yaadv. “A team of doctors has been deployed to took after them. But they cannot be kept on saline water for long.”

Meanwhile, support for the hunger strike has been building up. UML leader and former minister Raghubir Mahaseth and Kishori Sah among others have expressed their solidarity with the agitating entrepreneurs.

More than a dozen organisations have supported the agitation. Issuing a press statement today, Marwadi Service Committee Janakpur General Secretary Nirmal Kumar Sighniya also expressed solidarity with the agitation.

A meeting of FNCCI Janakpur chapter held today decided to shut Janakpur bazaar indefinitely from tomorrow to express solidarity with the agitation. “We will close the markets and industries until their demands are met,” Nirmal Kumar Chaudhary, FNCCI Adviser warned.
