Agreement to hold peaceful agitation in Banke

Nepalgunj, August 26

The agitating parties and organisations in Banke have agreed to hold their agitation in a peaceful way.

The agreement was struck at an all-party discussion comprising representatives of the administration, agitating parties, National Human Rights Commission, among others, at the district administration office.

As per the agreement, the agitating parties and sides will hold agitation in a peaceful way in view of the approaching major festivals. They have also agreed not to use children in any sort of agitation and use any weapon, home-made or others, during agitation.

The administration, on its part, has agreed to gradually loosen the prohibitory orders in the district.

Banke Police chief SP Basanta Panta, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party central chairperson Pashupatidayal Mishra, Forum Democratic Banke district Chairperson Hiralal Loniya, Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee Banke Coordinator Chandra Bahadur Chaudhary, among others, were present in today’s discussion.

“As the festivals are near, we will be careful not to trouble people while fighting for our cause,” said TMDP central member Mishra.

Meanwhile, the administration lifted the curfew imposed in Kohalpur municipality from 4:00pm today. Earlier, the administration had put in place the curfew in view of the demonstrations in the prohibitory areas. However, the prohibitory order still persists in the area until another notice. Similarly, the prohibitory order in Nepalgunj continued today. According to CDO Bed Prakash Lekhak, the order shall be in place until another notice is issued.

Meanwhile, Bardia administration has continued with prohibitory orders in Gulariya and Rajpur areas.
