Agriculture and Forestry University padlocked

  • Affiliation to private colleges caused stir

Ratnagar, July 4

Various student unions today padlocked the Agriculture and Forestry University at Rampur in the district to protest Tribhuvan University’s preparations to give affiliation to private colleges.

The agitation means protesting against the process already moved forward to grant affiliations to seven private colleges, instead of establishing constituent colleges to implement the government’s decision in this regard, said President of All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary at the university.

Office bearers of TU have also been accused of appropriations in the process.

Preparations were under way to give affiliation to various private colleges (two in Nawalparasi and one each in Parasi, Jhapa, Itahari, Saptari, Surkhet, Tikapur and Kathmandu), it is said.

When asked, TU’s Vice Chancellor Dr IP Dhakal said a public notice had been announced to this effect three years ago and they were forced to go to private colleges as the government would face burden, in terms of everything including finance, in looking after Tribhuvan University constituent colleges only.

The process was on to give affiliation to 23 private colleges across the country and seven constituent colleges would be established in all seven provinces, he said.
