KATHMANDU, JULY 22
Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said he will soon return to Nepal after medical treatment abroad, while urging democratic forces to unite in defence of democracy, constitutionalism and national interests.
In a message issued on the occasion of BP Koirala Memorial Day, Deuba said that although he has been staying overseas for treatment in recent months, his thoughts and concerns have remained focused on Nepal, its people and democratic institutions.
The former prime minister expressed concern over what he described as growing pressure on independent institutions, including the judiciary and constitutional bodies, and warned against retaliatory politics and authoritarian tendencies. He said the Nepali Congress bears a historic responsibility not only as an opposition party but also as a guardian of democracy, the Constitution and national unity.
Paying tribute to BP Koirala, Deuba said the late leader's principles of nationalism, democracy, socialism and reconciliation continue to guide the country and the party. He stressed the need for trust, dialogue and cooperation among political parties, civil society and the younger generation to address contemporary challenges.
Deuba said Nepal requires unity rather than division, trust rather than suspicion, and cooperation rather than confrontation. He called on all democratic and constitutional forces to work together for nation-building and a shared future.
Concluding his message, Deuba announced that he would soon return to Nepal and reaffirmed his commitment to democracy, national interests and constitutional governance, expressing confidence in the democratic consciousness of the Nepali people.
