Alcohol billboards to be removed in Jiri

JIRI: All the billboards in Jiri are to be removed in a bid to beautify the major tourism destination of Dolakha district.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Area Police Office, Jiri, Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar Karki said all the hoarding boards in the town are to be removed as hundreds of unsystematically installed hoarding boards have made the town ugly.

Karki, who is recently appointed the Chief police officer of the Area Police Office here, also said that he would do his best to curb alcohol abuse, the main problem of the town as he saw it. He urged for the cooperation of the locals in this effort.

As the first step towards that end, Karki proposed to remove the hoarding boards advertising different brands of liquor that abound in the town.

He also stressed the need of conducting public awareness programmes against alcohol abuse.
