Ambitious e-education project in Panchthar in limbo

PHIDIM: An e-education project launched in Panchthar district around three months ago could not move ahead thanks to negligence from concerned stakeholders.

The project was launched at 15 schools of the district with an aim to experiment with modern technologies in teaching-learning activities, on January 1.

However, the lack of coordination among the District Education Office, donors and local stakeholders has marred its functioning.

The project was earlier supposed to get launched in September last year. However, the DEO and the donor, Equality Foundation, an organisation of Nepalis living in the United States, had agreed to launch the project from January 1.

Nevertheless, even a preliminary survey has not been conducted yet allegedly due to lack of coordination among stakeholders.

In September last year, the DEO had formed a three-member committee under the leadership of its Section Officer Yugmani Sawehang to implement the project. The committee, however, has not done anything except announcing the launch.

The project coordinator Radha Krishna Neupane said the programme could not be rolled out as establishing towers for internet connection was quite expensive.

Likewise, the project was delayed as the Equality Foundation did not send its representative to Nepal, he added.

He, however, was hopeful that they would launch the project soon.

Stakeholders suggested that the DEO itself should take initiatives to launch the project soon.
