ANNFSU’s 18th convention today

Kathmandu, September 17 :

The student wing of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML), All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), is organising its 18th national convention in Chitwan from tomorrow.

The major theme of the four-day-long convention would be restructuring of the education sector and establishment of a democratic republic.

The convention will raise issues on institutional strengthening in which it will take a decision on providing membership to 55 per cent of students from grade VIII and above and out of which 25 per cent will be mobilised for massive campaign for organisational expansion.

“Institutional issues, political issues and educational issues will be discussed in the convention,” according to Khimlal Bhattarai, the president of ANNFSU.

The convention will also discuss the formation of a central committee through direct elections and will suggest naming one candidate for one post. The meeting will also discuss plans to organise a Mechi-Mahakali students’ march for a democratic republican set up.

On educational reformation, the conventional would formulate a draft of people-oriented education policy after intense discussions on educational restructuring, Bhattarai said.

A total of 12,00 members, 2,00 volunteers and 100 artistes are participating in the convention.
