ANNISU-R cadres thrash UML

Dhankuta, March 21:

Five persons — including former accountant in the central office of the CPN-UML Gopal Guragain — were injured when Maoist-affiliated ANNISU-R students thrashed them over a row over FSU election today.

The five were attacked while they were heading to attend an all-party meeting at the Regional Administration Office. Guragain has sustained deep head injury and he was rushed to Dharan for treatment.

Other injured include UML district secretary Tikaram Chemjong, UML Koshi Zonal member Dharmaraj Poudel and UML district committee secretariat member Rajendra Rai. They are undergoing treatment in Dhankuta district hospital.

Likewise, ANNISU-R attacked ANNFSU cadre Thom Bahadur Bishwokarma with a knife while he was attending a programme addressed by the Prime Minister today. According to ANNFSU’s Prabin Pokhrel, the ANNISU-R cadres also attacked UML cadre Shiva Angla.

Police said ANNISU-R students also vandalised a vehicle of Regional Administration Office that was ferrying UML district leaders to the all-party meeting venue.

Meanwhile, the police arrested Hem Chandra Kiranti, chairman of ANNISU-R Dhankuta Multiple Campus unit in connection with the attacks.
