ANNISU-R, NSU cadres clash

The Central Campus of the Institute of Agriculture under the Tribhuvan University at Rampur in Chitwan has been closed for 10 days from today.
Nepal Students’ Union cadres forced the closure of all campuses in Chitwan today.
The NSU students were protesting against the thrashing of their activists by the pro-Maoist All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary cadres yesterday after entering the Rampur Campus hostel.
A notice issued by Rampur Campus today said the campus was closed for 10 days following the conflict among the students and the resulting uneasy situation.
The campus notice also ordered students to evacuate the hostel.
NSU district committee organised a press conference today and said that ANNISU-R students and Peoples’ Liberation Army personnel, including ANNISU-R district chairman Lal Bahadur Tamang, entered the college premesis with different weapons and beat up students in the hostel.
A student, Birendra Kumar Chaudhari, who was critically injured by the ANNISU-R cadres’ attack, said he was hit by an iron rod.
Another injured student Badri Khanal said the assailants used weapons like swords, khukuris and knives while attacking them.
In a statement, ANNISU-R chairperson of Rampur Campus Unit, Nabin Babu Khanal, said they have struck a deal after NSU students apologised and that the issue was settled.
However, Nepal Students Union chairperson of Rampur campus unit Rajendra Dotel said the ANNISU-R cadres forced him to sign the agreement between the two unions.
NSU Chitwan chairman, Jeet Narayan Shrestha, said ANNISU-R cadres have to apologise for the incident and express commitment not to repeat such an incident in the future.
