Anti-graft body calls for improved facilities at TIA

Kathmandu, March 2:

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today directed government authorities to initiate reforms in the country’s only international airport.

Stating that the current management at Tribhuvan International Airport was not on a par with international standards, the CIAA directed the government authorities to adopt security measures to make the airport safe and secure.

The anti-graft body also asked the Civil Aviation Office to transfer its labour desk to an appropriate place. It directed the secretary of Ministry of Labour to adopt one-door policy in providing labour stickers to people going abroad for jobs. It also asked the ministry to make necessary arrangements so that the stakeholders concerned are informed in advance whether labour approval is required for abroad employment. In order to make the services at TIA more effective, the CIAA also directed the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation to ensure that the workers obtained labour stickers before they check in into the airport.

The CIAA issued the directives after it found irregularities in the airport. It had formed a panel to probe the airport issues. The directives were based on the report of the panel.
