Anti-graft body to probe irregularities in labour export

Kathmandu, June 17:

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has started investigation into the irregularities related to exporting Nepali workforce to foreign markets.

“We have found irregularities in export of Nepali workforce to foreign markets,” CIAA acting chief commissioner Lalit Bahadur Limbu told this daily today. “Irregularities on the part of government officials has resulted in Nepali citizens facing trouble abroad,” Limbu said.

During his visit in Doha last week, Limbu investigated irregularities in Nepali Embassy in Doha and found that the embassy officials have been collecting money from Nepalis for no valid reason.

“The embassy officials have been collecting Riyal 50 (Rs 900) from each Nepali citizen as ‘urgent charge’. There is no logic for collecting this money. I have received similar complaints from many other countries,” he added.

The CIAA has taken the issue seriously and it will probe the matter, he said.

The CIAA has decided to summon the officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of Labour, Department of Labour Promotion and Immigration next week.
