Armed Police Force (APF) Inspector died after being hit by a passenger bus in Balara Municipality, Sarlahi, on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Bijay Tuladhar, who was stationed at the APF Camp in Chatauna, Balara Municipality-9.
The incident occurred at 8:00 pm when the bus (Ba-Pradesh-01006-Kha-2004), travelling from Bagmati Bari of Durga Bhagwati Rural Municipality-5 to Kathmandu, struck Tuladhar near his base camp. According to police reports, he was returning from a field patrol when the accident took place.
Critically injured, he passed away en route to Provincial Hospital, Malangawa, according to police.
The bus, reportedly driven by an intoxicated co-driver, lost control and overturned after hitting Inspector Tuladhar right in front of the APF Border Out Post (BOP).
Police have detained the co-driver, 22-year-old Vikas Kumar Baitha of Dhanakoul Rural Municipality-1 in Sarlahi, along with two helpers, Ajit Baitha, 19, and Prem Shankar Yadav, 23, both from Balara-10.
An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing, said District Police Chief Rabindra Bahadur Singh.
Inspector Tuladhar, a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, will be transported back to Kathmandu for final rites today.
