BIRGUNJ, SEPTEMBER 11

The Armed Police Forces have seized a large quantity of smuggled food supplies from a warehouse in Birgunj on Sunday.

Acting on a special tip-off, a team of APF personnel deployed from APF 13 no Battalion, Birgunj, raided a warehouse in Bajrang Tol near the Sirsiya Bridge behind Thakuraram Multiple Campus in Birgunj Metropolitan City-10 and seized 800 kg of cashew nuts smuggled from India.

The raid team comprised Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Devendra Bahadur Singh and Deependra Sharma Poudel, an official from the Birgunj Customs Office.

The cashew nuts were hidden in the warehouse in the house belonging to Magani Raut, DSP Singh said, adding that the estimated value of the seized cashew nuts is Rs 720,000.

The seized cashew nuts have been handed over to the Birgunj Customs Office, Parsa, for further legal proceedings, DSP Singh added. An ongoing investigation is being conducted regarding the owner of the cashew nuts, he said.
