Appoint Nepal's ambassadors immediately, House panel to govt
KATHMANDU: The Parliament's International Relations and Labour Committee on Tuesday directed the government to immediately appoint Nepal's ambassadors in 14 different countries.
With a conclusion that Nepal's diplomatic role had been weak in the host countries due to delay in the ambassador appointment, a meeting of the IRLC decided to direct the government to fill up the vacant positions in all the diplomatic missions as soon as possible.
Earlier, the House panel held a meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat and Foreign Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi to discuss the delay in appointment of ambassadors.
Responding to Committee members' queries, Minister Mahat said that he was working on the appointment by holding consultation with the ruling coalition, , the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported. He said the ambassadors would be appointed soon.
After it was formed, the Nepali Congress-Maoist coalition government revoked the nominations that the KP Sharma Oli-led government had made.
It later appointed Nepal's ambassadors to India and China only.
