Arghakhanchi becomes 2nd self-reliant district in milk
SANDHIKHARKHA: Arghakhanchi has become another self-reliant district for milk production following Kavre, recording sales of milk worth Rs 70 million on average annually.
There are more than 100 milk producer groups in the district where mostly youth are involved into the commercial husbandry of cows and buffaloes, according to the District Livestock Service Office (DLSO), Arghakhanchi.
Of the total production, a majority of the production is consumed in the district itself while some amount is sent to the neighboring districts- Palpa and Gulmi, shared Bishnu Poudel, veterinary doctor at the DLSO office.
According to him, around 4,000 liters of milk is collected in various milk collection centres such as Kim Danda, Pokharathok, Merang Artaghos among others across the district on a daily basis.
The DLSO has been providing subsidy and technical assistance to those involved in commercial animal husbandry so as to help boost the farmers' production relating to diary.
The government had declared Kavre to be the first district to achieve the status of self-sufficiency in milk production in 2016. The government aims to make country self-reliant in milk production in the next two years.
