Army could be deployed for CA polls, says Nepal
Nepalgunj, April 6:
CPN (UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal today said the Nepal Army could be deployed for security during the constituent assembly (CA) polls with the agreement of the eight political parties.
Inaugurating the seventh conference of Nepal Civil Servants’ Organisation here, Nepal said the current strength of policemen was not enough for security during the CA polls and that the idea of deploying temporary policemen was questionable.
Stating that there are only some 25,000 Armed Police Force personnel and some 45, 000 Nepal Police personnel, Nepal said at least 70,000 additional security personnel would be needed for the election. He added that ex-armymen, ex-police personnel and former government staffers could also be deployed with the agreement of all sides.
Stating that regressive forces would get active if the CA polls were not held on the deadline and that the resultant delay would create chaos in the nation, Nepal said the polls should be held on June 20 by any means.
